geocaching1_wideweb__470x3440Come learn and try your hand at the new high tech sport that is sweeping the country and the world.

Bring your GPS if you have one. If you do not that is OK too we will have special caches that you can find as well.

This event is meant to be a fun, learning experience for the whole family. Even if you don't want to play please stop by the Paws Awhile booth we don't bite.

We will have a list of local pet friendly businesses, restaurants as well as some free handouts. We will also have a list of local dog friendly geocaches if you ever do want to play some day.

Either way we hope you have a great time at Whisker Walk 2010

How to play:

Come to the Paws Awhile Online Community Booth. Here you will receive a booklet with the rules of the game and a  gamecard with the coordinates of the caches that you must find.

If you do not have a GPS you will receive a series of hints to use to find the caches.

There will be 6 two part caches hidden throughout the park. Part one is a micro cache. Part two is a regular cache.

You or your team must find both the micro and the regular cache.

When you find each cache you must use the rubber stamp located inside the cache to stamp your gamecard. Each cache will have a unique theme and the stamps will reflect that theme.

Also located in the regular cache will be some small "treasures", a log book and a disposable camera if you want to record your find.

When participants have found both parts of their caches they will return to the Paws Awhile Online Community booth. Staff will check their gamecard to make sure they found both caches of the same series.

The team or individual will receive a free t-shirt if they have been successful. (sorry only 1 shirt per team will be awarded)

The gamecard will  then be entered into a grand prize raffle in which you can win a Garmin handheld GPS and other prizes.

Rules:

Participants will use their GPS to locate a two part temporary cache that is hidden within the Lancaster Fairgrounds.

You must find both parts of the cache that you have been assigned in order to receive a t-shirt and be entered into the Grand Prize Contest.

Gamecards must be stamped with the corect stamp corresponding to that cache.

Participants should use stealth when uncovering the cache and not reveal the whereabouts to other players or other non players (muggles).

Not everyone will be seeking the same cache so you must use your own gamecard coordinates or hints.

Participants may return tothe Paws Awhile booth for additional hints if they are having difficulty.

Coordinates and hints will not be made available until the day of the event.

Participants must come to the booth to receive their gamecard.

All caches are temporary and will be removed after the event is over.

The event will not begin until 11:00 AM June 6, 2010. People who arrive early will not be given game cards until the event officially begins.

There will be no rewards or incentives for First To Finds. This is meant to be a fun, learning event for families, children and dogs.

Participants may only hunt for one series of caches there will however be 1 additional difficult cache for participants to find if they choose to do so.

There will be no extra incentive or reward for finding this "difficult" cache only the satisfaction of finding it. This will be a regular cache and will contain tradeable items.
